Clinical Care/In-Office Procedures:

We offer safe, in-office procedures to improve the clarity, tone, color, and texture of skin while requiring little or no recovery time.

The MicroPeel® is a three-part process that includes physical dermaplaning or enzymatic exfoliation, an alpha hydroxy acid treatment, and a cryogenic therapy session that involves freezing the skin. The procedure lasts about 45 minutes.

The MicroPeel Plus® is an enhancement of the basic MicroPeel® with an additional chemical exfoliation. The chemical exfoliation goes one step further in smoothing out fine lines and wrinkles and can even in some cases help even out skin discoloration.

The Pigment Peel Plus® is a skin care treatment designed to peel off a layer of skin within a week, revealing a newer, younger layer of skin from beneath.

The first step in a skincare regimen is to determine what type of skin you have. Before meeting with our aesthetician, you will be asked to complete a brief skin care evaluation form.

Skin types as defined by La Roche-Posay/BioMedic:

Environmentally Damaged Skin

Throughout life, everyone is exposed to the sun and other harmful skin irritants, such as air pollution, in varying degrees. This exposure, along with smoking, alcohol, medications, stress, and harsh weather conditions, leaves skin with a dull, dry, discolored, and lined complexion.

Hyperpigmented Skin is usually a result of photosensitizing agents or hormonal changes in the body, such as pregnancy and menopause. Excessive sun exposure and lack of sun protection can worsen this condition.

Potential Causes:

  • You have had excessive sun exposure while taking certain medications (antibiotics, tranquilizers, diuretics, etc.).
  • You have been using facial depilatories, bleaches, or waxing procedures to remove hair.
  • You have been using over-the-counter acne preparations.
  • You do not always use sunscreen when outdoors.

Prematurely Aged Skin sufferers must deal with decreased cellular turnover, where fewer new cells are replacing old ones. When dead skin cells do not shed rapidly, it results in a dry, dull, and wrinkled complexion.

Symptoms:

  • Your dry, fine lines are beginning to deepen.
  • Your skin looks older than you are.
  • Your skin is no longer firm and elastic.
  • Your skin feels thinner and is showing "spider veins" on the face and chest.
  • You spent many years enjoying the sun without protecting your skin.

Acne Skin

Most people will suffer from blemishes and oily skin at some time during their teenage and early adult years. Although the presence of all types of acne can cause poor self-confidence, the severity of this condition can vary widely.

Acne-Prone Skin can be thought of as good skin that is out of balance. Worse yet, acne-prone skin knows no age boundary. In acne-prone skin, the sebaceous (oil) glands become overactive from internal factors such as the hormonal surge commonly signaling PMS, stress, diet, or external factors like pollution and sun exposure.

Symptoms:

  • You are often told that your skin looks shiny.
  • You have many undefined bumps under your skin and enlarged pores.
  • You have sudden breakouts for no apparent reason.
  • Your face feels unclean and greasy by mid-afternoon.

Active Acne Skin is genetic, but there are many factors that contribute to the severity of this type of acne, such as over-productive sebaceous (oil) glands, epidermal shedding dysfunction, environmental pollution, and stress.

Symptoms:

  • You have many sore, undefined bumps under your skin.
  • You suffer from cysts and pustules.
  • You have blackheads on your nose, chin, and cheeks.
  • You have breakouts on your back and chest.

Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin can be defined as an abnormal skin response to various physical or chemical factors. Sensitive skin is much more affected by external factors than normal skin.

Intolerant Skin is affected by environmental stress, strong fragrances, preservatives, and certain topicals.

Symptoms:

  • Your skin is sensitive to temperature change.
  • Your skin gets red when eating spicy food, exercising, or in high-stress situations.
  • Certain fabrics make your skin itch.
  • Both skin care products and cosmetics have caused blotching, breakout, and rashes in the past.

Sensitized Skin is an acquired condition usually occurring after a cosmetic procedure due to the vulnerability of the delicate post-operative skin.

Symptoms:

  • You are experiencing redness or discomfort from a cosmetic procedure such as a face-lift, laser resurfacing, or a chemical peel.

Dry Skin

Dry skin can be caused by a lack of natural moisturizers within the skin or by damage to the protective film that prevents moisture loss. How our skin feels is influenced by many factors – the weather, age, work environment, contact with certain substances, medication, frequent washing, or our genetic makeup.

Dehydrated Skin is basically normal skin that occasionally becomes dry and feels uncomfortably tight due to external factors. This discomfort can be greatly improved by using the right moisturizing product.

Symptoms:

  • Your skin feels tight and chapped in certain weather conditions.
  • Your skin is not scaling, itching, flaking, or burning.

Severely Dry Skin is usually caused by an existing skin condition and is most often recognized by scaling, itching, flaking, and burning. Extremely cold weather, harsh conditions, and several cosmetic procedures all cause trauma to severely dry skin.

Symptoms:

  • You are suffering from xerosis and/or eczema.
  • You have recently undergone a cosmetic procedure such as a chemical peel, microdermabrasion, or liposuction, and you are experiencing severe dryness.
